Back story • Hospitality & adventure

Getting to the Point is the Hideaway Point blog. It is the place where we share our larger vision for this special place - what inspires us, what we value and the hopes and dreams we have for Hideaway Point.

When I was 17, I was searching for a life full of rich purpose and meaningful experiences. I didn’t know that God cared about the adventure that I longed for - but was introduced to that idea at a summer camp in 1997. It changed the way that I thought about our world and my place in it.

I learned about a God that made every person intentionally - with a unique plan and purpose. Understanding that one detail, prompted me to embrace Jesus in a way that continues (25 years later) to change my life on a daily basis. Knowing that God made everyone with a plan and purpose should change the way we see the world and all the people in it.

I knew that I wanted what God had for my life - and was confident that I knew what it was. Much to my surprise… I was mistaken. I finished high school, went to college, got married, stayed home with babies. I volunteered at church and with Young Life, baked cookies for school functions, hosted play dates & dinner parties and spent holidays visiting family. I had people in my home whenever I could and looked for opportunities to experience nature and get outdoors with our kids.

I struggled to feel like I was “doing anything” during those years - and wondered if I would ever have a fulfilling career outside of our home. Along the way, there were little sparks of joy and adventure that filled my heart and spoke to a deeper purpose and calling. Home and adventure have been consistent themes throughout my life. In hindsight - it is no surprise that God was writing the Hideaway Point story (a place for hospitality and adventure) long before I understood His plan.

We have big hopes (and open hearts) for what Hideaway Point will be. We know that it will be a place where good things happen. Join our newsletter to stay in the loop with what is happening and sign up for our prayer team if you would like to partner with us in praying for it.

We believe in the power of retreat and would love to help you imagine what time away at Hideaway Point could look like for you and your family, community, organization or business. Let us know how we can help.
