One of my favorite places to go near Bryson City, North Carolina is Lake Fontana. It is a spectacular, man made lake, that is wonderful and deep. There are pine trees and tulip poplars. I like finding sparkling rocks and pebbles at the bottom of the lake. I love how the red mud squishes between my toes.
The calm water is great for paddle boarding (you can rent paddle boards from Bryson City Outdoors). There are always rope swings at Lake Fontana. When I run off the rock with the rope in my hands, I feel like I am flying. When I let go, I splash into the nice, crystal clear water. It is a good place for diving. My brother can hold his breath for a long time and he is really good at finding random things underwater (like sunglasses, goggles and a plastic Captain America shield).
The Fingerlakes Day Use Area is only five minutes away from Hideaway Point. It is a great place to have a picnic or an afternoon swim.
