My family really loves the Nantahala gorge/Bryson city area and it’s a beautiful place to be. One of my favorite things to do there is going tubing. There are lots of places to go tubing in the area but my favourite is the Oconaluftee river that runs through Cherokee. Cherokee is around 30 minutes away from Hideaway point. It’s a great place to go tubing; it has both calm and deep/shallow parts that you float through as well as little rapids. There are lots of places to rent tubes in Cherokee and it’s a great place to spend the day. You can tube for as short as you want to as long as you want just going down the river from your choice of starting places (we usually tube between 1 and 2 hours). Tubing in Cherokee is really fun but if it’s not quite your thing there is a great park and picnic area by the river called the Oconaluftee Islands Park. It is a great place to have a picnic and play around in the shallow water and rocks.
